22nd Annual Stenciling, Decorative Arts & Faux Finishing Convention July 16, 2007 July 21, 2007 USA

http://www.sali.org/convention_brochure_07.php
Simply put, that is what SALI is about. Bringing together artisans at every skill level to learn from each other, to recreate and rekindle the old world techniques while embracing and refining “new world” artistic expressions.

The Stencil Artisans League, Inc. has a proud history and a brilliant future. Each member brings a new perspective to our organization. SALI’s not-for-profit status confirms our mission to preserve and protect the history of stencil arts. Our members also believe in fostering and supporting innovations in products, tools and techniques.
We are expecting to have another fantastic
convention. Each year the convention gets bigger, and it?s
amazing how many people are so willing to share their
knowledge and their talents. This whole industry has
grown in many different ways: from vendor?s schools,
manufacturers, and the talents of many people. And just
think, we get to spend a week with many of them!
If you are a new member of SALI and if this is your first
time at the convention, we would like to invite you to a
special time with other new attendees on Monday. This
is where you can get some great information about the
organization, meet the Board, and get a chance to hear
what to expect during the week.
Sheri Hoeger, the Mad Stencilist, will kick off our week
by speaking at the AGM on Tuesday. Sheri has been a
vendor, a teacher, and a long time SALI supporter. We
look forward to hearing Sheri speak! We are adding a
few things to our agenda that we really hope you will
enjoy. We are fortunate that we have three special
presentations: Ina Brosseau Marx, Dean Sickler, and
Adrienne van Dooren. All three will share a portion of
their vast knowledge. Because of the generosity of of
these people, all proceeds will be going to SALI.
Jennifer Ferguson, our Expo Chairman, has been working
with vendors for the trade show. This is always a fun
place to hang out and meet the manufacturers and use/
see the products available. Jeanine Lynch, our education
chair, has been working very hard with her committee
putting the class schedule together. Some wonderful
classes are being offered.
We will end our week with the professional keynote
speaker, Avish Parashar. Avish is an experienced,
innovative, energetic, and humorous speaker who uses
his 15+ years of experience performing, directing and
teaching improv comedy to deliver unique and refreshing
presentations to a variety of audiences. What a great
way to end our week! Check out our brouchure at http://www.sali.org/documents/SALI_07Brochure.pdf

Digital Corner of Technarte 2006 May 25, 2006 May 26, 2006 Spain

http://www.technarte.org
The Innovalia Association launches the Digital Corner of TECHNARTE 2006, a space where artists will be able to show their last work in digital format.

.: INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE :.

TECHNARTE 2006 is an International Conference whose slogan is “Art & Technology”. TECHNARTE will be held in Bilbao (Spain), on May 25th and 26th, 2006.

In this first edition, TECHNARTE has got the aim of creating new opportunities for artists and technologists, and of releasing the last and most advanced technological developments that help artists to do their job in an easier way.

.: DIGITAL CORNER :.

At the Conference, the Innovalia Association, organizer of TECHNARTE, will give the chance to several artists to exhibit their works in the Digital Corner.

The Digital Corner of TECHNARTE is a double space prepared for the exhibition of artistic works in digital format:

On the one hand, it is a ‘physical space’, a room at the Euskalduna centre parallel to the Conference and equipped for the continuous showing of the selected works.

On the other hand, it is a ‘virtual space’, a corner in Technarte?s website, where it will be able to visualize those artistic works which will better adapt to the Conference?s outlook.

Because of that, we launch this ‘Call for papers’, in order to give you the chance to take part in TECHNARTE 2006, a Conference that seeks to becoming the most important event of its kind.

The deadline for abstracts is the next May 5th, 2006. All of those artists interested in sending a proposal, should do it via e-mail to the adress technarte@technarte.org
More information available in the telephone: (0034) 94 480 51 83 (to Mr. Pedro Gabiola, Director of Technarte 2006 or Mr. Jes?s Santamar?a, responsible of Communication).

2nd annual National S.M.I.L.E. Conference November 17, 2000 November 19, 2000 USA

http://www.smileclowns.org/conference.htm
The 2nd annual National S.M.I.L.E. Conference was a tremendous success! Fifty-seven people were in attendance at the APS building in Phoenix on November 17-19, 2000.

The hotel for event was the Holiday Inn Express - across the street (I couldn’t let Mark Lee down by not mentioning this!) from the APS building.

The conference began with a hospitality suite and early on-site registration for out of town guests on Thursday night at the Holiday Inn Express. On Friday morning we started at ASU Downtown with a welcome, followed by watching Goober and Sgt Pepper perform for Kindergarten through 3rd grade at the Thomas J. Pappas Elementary School in downtown Phoenix. The show was great and we all laughed! After there was a lot of positive comments and suggestions in our post-show critique.

Following lunch at the APS building, Mark Ruffennach and Chris Vassall from Scottsdale (Arizona) Police Department presented an interactive class on team building. Then the instruction began! Two classes by our top notch instructors followed.

We had the annual meeting of the SMILE Organization. During that meeting, the Board for 2001-2002 was elected (see NEWS for more details). It was also reported that the Organization is in good fiscal shape this year, and we are working towards our 501(c)3 non profit status with the IRS. Members made some great comments and suggestions.

In the evening on Friday, we presented FOUR CORNERS featuring instruction in face painting, caricatures, balloon twisting, and juggling. This was followed by the grand opening of the dealer’s room with a special “$15 every 15 minute” raffle from the dealer’s tables!

Saturday morning was more incredible instruction from our Lead Instructors and SMILE Instructors. In the afternoon, SMILE President Ruffennach held a surprise meeting and presented the 2000 SMILE Presidential Award for outstanding service to the SMILE Organization to Vice President Bruce Wall. The SMILE Organization gave Bruce a new costume for his new character “Bucky”.
