A delightful gathering in Istanbul

Istanbul is a city of wonders far exceeding what words can express! Straddling the Bosphorus, its skyline studded with domes and minarets, Istanbul is one of the truly great romantic cities. It extends over both the European and Asian sides of the Bosphorus and, as the only metropolis in the world which spans two continents, it is ideally placed to welcome visitors from around the globe. The best times of the year to visit Istanbul are from April to June and from September to October, i.e. roughly in spring and autumn.

STEEL transformed by ART

For the first time ever the event will host an international steel sculpture exhibition which will provide an elegant and interesting atmosphere for networking.

This conference will present artworks by twelve artists from across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Each of these artists, who have chosen sculpture as their primary visual language, offers his or her own unique and individual perspective through the use of steel as a medium of creative expression.

Grupo Villacero is taking the lead in organizing and supporting these steel sculpture exhibitions, which have now practically become a tradition following the success of the initial events showcasing Latin American artists during the ILAFA meetings in South America. Now, in cooperation with SteelOrbis & IREPAS, the exhibition series is shifting its horizons to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Networking opportunity with over 300 steel industry executives

Africa Safety Audit in the Mining Industry February 26, 2008 February 27, 2008 South Africa

http://www.tact-bdm.com
South Africa’s Department of Minerals and Energy (DME) released some details on the safety audit that it would conduct across the country’s mines. It said that it had developed audit protocols that would address its scope, resource requirement, and consolidate the outcome of the audit.
President Thabo Mbeki ordered the audit in October 2007, after 3 200 workers were trapped underground at Harmony Gold’s Elandsrand mine, when a falling pipe damaged shaft infrastructure.
The DME said that the audit would comprise two streams - a legal audit and a technical audit of certain installations and practices at mines. The outcome of these audits will together give indication of the extent to which mines comply with health and safety requirements, and will also help mines develop programs of action to improve their health and safety.
The aim for this summit would be to step outside the parameters and deliver a pool of expertise and experience that is guaranteed to help mining companies in their quest for a total safety culture.
Africa Safety Audit in Mining Industry Summit 2008 is designed to be different by researching the real ?need to knows? on behavioral safety, safety policy, mine design, maintenance and risk management. The objective of this summit is to highlight the seriousness with which safety needs to be taken.
Collect new strategies, research outcomes and expert insights on:
o Promoting safety behaviour and safety leadership
o New legislative regimes and how they affect your operations
o Improving risk assessments through risk management tools
o Fatigue management and effective rostering practices
o Occupational Health & safety policy and management

The way forward in the quest for excellence in mine safety is to share our safety knowledge and expertise.

The trade show QUARRY 2006 in Litohoro constituted the beginning of a new exhibition model and was an absolute success. The upcoming trade show QUARRY 2008 in the quarry site at Litohoro, is expected to exceed in attendance and visitors the previous event.

The main purpose of the trade show QUARRY is to present dynamic new companies and their services in the market. Visitors were impressed by the size and commercial success of the Quarry trade show.

The need for briefing of professionals is imperative. The modern equipment for new quarries and the modernisation of old ones are absolutely essential for the excavation of materials and the protection of the environment. The production units of concrete and the mines, which are found not only in Greece but also in the Balkan countries and Cyprus, are visiting the trade show in order to be informed totally.

The huge innovation of the 1st Quarry trade show in 2006, the “live” demos & Test Drives, are going to rise in number and interest, at the next year’s (2008) upcoming show. The live demos will take place once again, with even heavier and more important machinery, as they constitute the “main attraction” for the visitors.

In 50.000 m? of quarry area, the exhibitors present machinery and equipments, materials and services covering every aspect of quarries, mines, pits and heavy duty constructions industry. The areas of demonstrations as well as the test drive fields are allocated in the exhibition area apart from the stands, for obvious safety reasons.

There are three main regions for the Live Demos:
• Quarry Land: Loaders and excavators load trucks with tons of stone, while rippers are used for secondary fracture in order to use the big rocks further on.
• Breaking Land: Different types of crashers are used for the crashing of the materials and their segregation into different sizes.
• Recycling Land: Materials for demolition are destroyed and then grouped, in order to be reused as primary materials in the construction industry.

Test Drives:
In the special TEST DRIVE field the visitors will test hands on, new models of trucks at real working conditions, such as: loaded with earth, in special bents, etc.

These are the things that make the 2nd Quarry Trade Show - 2008…
…the best trade show of its kind in Greece.

23rd International Ferro-Alloys Conference November 11, 2007 November 13, 2007 Monaco

http://www.metalbulletinstore.com/product.asp?PositionID=17984&ProductID=7059
Raw Materials Consumption The ferro-alloys market has always been unpredictable but all factors are pointing toward a buoyant 2007. This year’s conference will examine the market dynamics in the industry. With the ever increasing growth in consumption of raw materials, where are the new projects and what strategies are in place to fulfil growing demand?

Continued rapid economic development within developing countries coupled with urbanisation and industrialisation have all contributed to a powerful and fast developing steel industry. Global steel demand has shown no sign of slowing down with predictions of a 5.9% growth prediction in 2007. These means an increase of 65 million tons compared to 2006. Particularly strong trends in demand are predicted in the developing regions of Africa, Asia and South America.

Steel Production2007 has seen steel production increase by 10.5% on the same period in 2006. China has continued to lead the way, excluding China, global crude steel production only rose by 4.5%. China alone accounted for 34% of growth in 2006. In Europe crude steel production rose by 6.7% compared to the same period last year.

Stainless steel production is also predicted to have a strong rate of growth in 2007, last year saw China increase stainless steel output by 68%. Asian production led the way with an increase of 15.1 million tonnes compared to 10 million tonnes in Europe and Africa.

Nickel has hit record prices with speculation that supply may not meet the ever increasing demand. This demand outstripping supply situation has increased interest in substitution possibilities with molybdenum being increasingly focused on. Insatiable demand for ferro-chrome from the rapidly growing stainless steel industry is stretching supply from the South African ferro-chrome miners and India’s limit on chrome ore exports have further increased prices. A favourable cost structure and the availability of raw materials is a key concern for everybody involved in the steel and ferro-alloys industry. With fluctuating power costs and the rising cost of freight the industry how are companies streamlining and increasing efficiency?

KEY REASONS TO ATTEND:
? Analyse the changing market conditions in the global ferro-alloys industry and the impact on your business
? Listen to expert forecasts for raw material consumption in stainless and carbon steel markets
? Understand the key issues shaping the industry
? Understand the effects of technological changes
? Take the opportunity to network with leading executives and generate new business contacts
